Service in the time of COVID-19

As the Rotary Club of Pflugerville shares some achievements from the past 25 years, we are keenly aware of the challenges all have endured during this pandemic time of Covid-19. The Rotary Club of Pflugerville has worked endlessly to continue our weekly meetings via Zoom. Each week, we are able to continue learning and sharing with one another. We also proudly continue to welcome new members.

A few of the adjustments that the Rotary Club of Pflugerville has made, included a Virtual Scholarship presentation to 16 area high school seniors. The service club also provided masks in response to the Covid-19 PPE shortage. The club was directly approached through PCDC about the opportunity to purchase masks from a local, recently recruited company in the 3D printing, or “Additive Manufacturing” space.

We were able to use some of our funds, originally intended for community projects, to purchase 35 of the locally printed 3D mask frames with 30 filter cartridges each.  In turn, those masks were distributed in a manner consistent with the club's commitment to the community. Masks were provided to the Circle of Hope food pantry as a way to protect their staff when interacting with the public. We also provided 15 masks to Backpack Friends. Ensuring they could safely distribute food to local children in need. We also provided masks to local small businesses and distributed to small medical offices around Pflugerville.

Our service did not stop there. We mobilized to help an International Rotary Club in Cozumel, Mexico. During a weekly meeting, we were able to learn and see about the need to immediately feed families in that community. The service hearts of the Rotary Club of Pflugerville were able to make significant donations to assist in feeding families.

We continue to work with a local food pantry in Pflugerville during the time of Covid-19. Stay tuned for next week's post which will further detail how our members have partnered with Circle of Hope to help feed our community during this pandemic.
